properties of County departments who contract for such services, and to provide for a safe
environment for those who use County parks & recreation areas.

On December 15, 2009, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to merge the County Police into the Sheriff's Department, with County Police officers either becoming deputy sheriffs or taking non sworn positions with the Sheriffs Department. The merge is planned to take effect on June 30, 2010. As of right now the merger, or more accurately absorption, of OPS is in progress and by the end of 2010 The Office of Public Safety will cease to exist.
